Other Ceilidh and Celtic dances and music sessions

Mangonui / Doubtless Bay   A special one-off Mangonui ceilidh was held on 19 March. Just like the old days, on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The ceilidh was held in the Mangonui Hall. There is talk of maybe making the Mangonui ceilidh an annual event.

Ceili @ Mangonui (Doubtless Bay), was held in the Mangonui Hall on the third Saturday of every month up to and including the 20th of December 2014. Unfortunately, the organisers shut down the monthly Mangonui ceilidh.

Kohukohu, North Hokianga, New Zealand in the Kohukohu Hall: annual, . . . The 2010 ceilidh was held on Saturday, May 1st, and was a smashing success. No ceilidh was held in 2011, and no community ceilidh was held in 2012. The 2013 Kohukohu ceilidh was held on Saturday, 22 June, and was a huge success enjoyed by more than a hundred dancers. Unfortunately, there was no Kohukohu ceilidh in 2014 -- but watch this space for updates.

Rawene, South Hokianga, New Zealand in the Rawene Hall: people in the community have spoken of making this dance annual. The most recent Rawene ceilidh was held on a Saturday, a very warm summer's evening, at the historic Rawene Town Hall and was a huge success enjoyed by all attendees. There were great Rawene ceilidhs in 2014 and 2015. Curiously, the organizers asked that we not publicize their event. They said they were afraid of having too many people for their hall to hold. [No, we've never heard of such a thing before either.]

Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand (held in Kamo): theoretically annual but apparently irregular; in August 2008 and in July 2009. No ceilidh in 2011; not sure about 2012 through 2015, but Whangarei area musicians are talking about maybe putting on a ceilidh later this year -- watch this space.

Okaihau, Bay of Islands, Far North, New Zealand: occasional dances in the Okaihau Hall. The Okaihau Lions put on a wonderfully successful ceilidh in 2013 and another in 2014. Last year's Okaihau ceilidh (again put on by the Lions) was so well attended and so enthusiastically received that others are likely to follow.

Jam sessions in Auckland: excellent session at the Clare Inn, Dominion Road, Mt. Eden, on Monday nights. Good sessions on Tuesday evenings at Florrie McGreal's in Takapuna. Sessions at The Bog (renamed McCarthy's and subsequently closed) in Parnell on Sunday nights are no longer happening. Either that (Bog) session or the Kingsland jam session on Sunday afternoons may have been moved to Florrie McGreal's in Takapuna.
